What is the oldest version of iTunes that will homeshare to the Apple TV 4 ?

I purchased a new Apple TV 4 and it will not connect to my mac mini running OS X 10.6.8, it sees it, but will not connect. The Apple TV 4 will connect to my Mac mini running OS X 10.11.1, however the older mac has my library on it. Does the New apple tv have a limitation as far as the software version that will allow homeshare to connect?
