Dec 13, 2015 12:18 PM in response to digger31by Duane,If you want to stream iTunes, you will need an Apple TV. I don't believe that Apple TV will do youtube and a mid-2010 iMac will not do AirPlay (Use AirPlay to display video from your Mac on an HDTV - Apple Support).
To do all this, you will need an Apple TV and then a different device to support youtube.

Dec 13, 2015 12:31 PM in response to digger31by Phil0124,Here's the thing, Neither Roku nor a smart Blu Ray player will let you stream iTunes content to the Tv.
Getting a Roku or a Smart Blu Ray player kind of makes the point of streaming moot however, since both of those options will have a Youtube App, to play youtube videos directly.
For iTunes, you would need an Apple Tv.
However, since your iMac is just too old to Airplay, the best option if you want to use iTunes, and Youtube is to get an Apple Tv. A 3rd Gen Apple Tv should work for everything you want.
It does have the YouTube app, and you can Play movies from the iTunes Store and his iMac's iTunes Library through Home Sharing. So Airplay would not be necessary.
If you want to go newer, you can go for a 4th Gen Apple Tv though.

You should also review https://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/getstarted/ while you are waiting for the ATV to arrive.

Dec 13, 2015 1:02 PM in response to Duaneby Phil0124,Youtube changed the API a while ago, and chose not to update the Apps for the first and second generation Apple Tvs. As well as many other older devices, such as smart Blu Ray players, first gen iPads, and older tablets and smart Tvs
When Google did this, Apple removed the Apps from the older Apple Tvs since they no longer worked.

Certain older YouTube apps will no longer be supported after April 2015
The updated Apps are available for 3rd and 4th Generation Apple Tvs perfectly fine.

No, but as I said, both those options already have Youtube Apps built in. So streaming from the PC is unnecessary.
Again, the best option is the Apple Tv. As any new version will also have the Youtube App, and let him play movies from his library through home sharing as well.
