Q: iOS 9.2 iCloud backup still not fixed!!!

So I've been plagued with the Backup could not be completed problem and I've been waiting for Apple to release a fix and I was happy to see this problem mentioned as one of the bugs dealt with in iOS 9.2, BUT it was not actually fixed!

Now my phone is not backed up at all after all Apple geniuses advised that I delete older backups from iCould and try again, my MacBook storage is too small to carry my 128gb iPhone backup and now if my phone dies for some reason all my life is gone with it, well most of it!

Tried backing up my iPhone to external storage but Apple won't let you do that cause we are freaking slaves and not free to do what we want, so now I hope they would finally listen and address this issue that has been mentioned many times before!!!!

They read through all of the support notes for 9.2.1 while I was on the phone with them, and one note says:

    • Fixing an issue that prevented some manual iCloud Backups from completing

...but because it didn't actually do anything for me, they sent a case into engineering and told me they will look into it. They said that they will be getting back to me within 2 days...and that they would look for this thread in the forum as well.

Maybe this issue (that I had since ios 9.2) has been solved but we can't check it because it's now impossible to enable and make an icloud backup ! So no backup at all instead of a backup not completed...

You are able to manually turn on iCloud backup with iTunes, but unfortunately this does not solve the issue when clicking back up.

Yes I figured this out yesterday. Once the backup enabled, you can't launch it.... And we are all talking about Apple devices... APPLE...

Support thinks that this is due to all of us not having enough space for a backup, but I told them that multiple people in this post already paid for extra storage and it didn't resolve the issue.

I additionally have THIS issue with icloud backup which I cannot fix, no matter what I try (to reduce storage space in an attempt to fix this issue):

Can not turn off photo library backup from iCloud on 6s

Do you all also have this issue? (Click iCloud Storage, Manage Storage, This iPhone, then disable Photo Library).

    So... this ***!

After much hardship I managed to delete my iCloud backup via my iPhone 6, because it didn't refresh the available storage info after automatic backup. It showed full even after removing all my photos and videos from the device. Now I am faced with a new problem - can't switch the iCloud backup ON again. It says: "iCloud Backup Failed - There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup" and underneath two buttons "Cancel" and "Try Again". In the end, from the both buttons I get the same result - nada. Is there going to be a fix in the near future or I should forget about iCloud backup? If people pay for extra storage that is obviously unusable for the time being, do they get a refund?

    Regards,

    Disgruntled customer

Upgraded to 50GB storage just now, doesn't fix this issue.

I have exactly the same problem and have tried everything to fix it.

    Still cannot backup to iCloud.

Just got off the phone with Apple Support.

They acknowledge it is a known issue for some users and have engineers working on the problem.

    Happy days...

As reported earlier, my iCloud backups stopped for both my iPhone 5 and iPad for several weeks.  Then both the iPhone 5 and iPad successfully performed automatic backups on 1-16-2016.  All manual and automatic iCloud backups since 1-16-2016 have been successful.  Don't know of anything I did that would have any impact on iCloud backups.  Very difficult to trust iCloud backups now.  I will not be surprised if my iCloud backups stop again.

I'm in the same situation: Re: Can't enable iCloud backup

I have 3.8G free, ad previous backups have taken around 1.2G (before I deleted them in an attempt to fix the issue).

Upgrade to iOS 9.2.1 didn't help.

    Very disappointing.

How can they sai that ? The problem attemps after having deleted all backups on the server. So it's not a matter of storage space...

I have a 5s that manual backup says is complete but it does not update the contacts.  Tried using 9.2 and 9.2.1.

I have a 6 that does a manual backup and it does backup the contacts.

    Go figure...

Same here, only in the last few days.  The same thing happened to me a while ago and I can't remember how it was fixed. It may have just fixed itself.  Looks like we all have to wait until iOS 9.3 in a few months time.

If you sync contacts with iCloud (Settings/iCloud - Contacts ON) then contacts are not included in the backup. Same with other iCloud sync items (Calendar, Notes, etc).
