MacBook Ari trackpad cursor does not "click" (work)

First time encountering this problem on my MacBook Air. Track pad cursor moves but cannot "click" to activate any command. Tried multiple times restarting (powering off with main on/off switch) and restart with various combination key hold downs. Nothing works. Tried also using a bluetooth mouse, which the computer recognizes (cursor moves) but also no response to any "clicking." Any ideas? Thank you.
