• Using a camera with your Mac -- Apple Support
The camera has a software component in the OS X. Early Apple computers
had an iSight camera either built-in or as an external accessory; I have an
first edition MacBook 13-inch 1.83GHz coreduo that has an iSight built-in.
And a later model computer with external Apple Cinema aluminum display
with iSight original FW camera that sits on top (and is removable) of display.
From what I've seen, the software compatible with the camera is (about) the
only way to modify images. The article linked above suggests some of those.
There may be other third-party software that could use the built-in or external
camera; some may use FireWire if those ports exist, for video or other. USB
is one of the common standards for an external camera.

Third-party software is likely the way to go, if not the only way for live video.
However your OS X is newer than mine, so there may be more settings.

Did you have a specific kind of presentation in mind to make use of the camera?
In some instances, the external camera will give greater range of purpose.
Good luck in any event...!
