Q: Magic Keyboard Battery Level stopped showing up

I have had the Magic Keyboard since it first came out a month ago or so and it was working just fine until today when my iMac informed me that the battery was low. So I connected the Lightning connector and noted that System Preferences-Keyboard no longer shows the battery level. Everything is working fine with the Magic Trackpad however.

The first time I looked under System Preferences it did show the Battery level but it didn't show the lightning bolt so I was concerned that it was not actually charging (which turned out to be correct, unfortunately)

I have tried turning off Bluetooth and back on with no luck. Bluetooth settings seems to show that the battery levels in the Magic Keyboard are ok but the Battery levels under Keyboard do not display like they used to.

I have tried turning off the Magic Keyboard using that tiny switch on the back, with no luck.

So I am afraid that it is going to run out of charge altogether so I guess I will have to return it to the local Apple Store (not my idea of fun)

I have the same problem. I think it lost the battery level signal after I updated El Capitan to 10.11.2. Help please!

    Thank you...Angela

Same issue here. I think you're correct about the 10.11.2 update as that's when I noticed it too.

+1. I am also no longer seeing the keyboard battery level following the most recent OS X upgrade.

I can definitely confirm that's the issue. I replaced the hard drive in my Mac Mini with an SSD and installed iOS from Scratch. My battery levels indicator was being displayed on the Keyboard option. Once I upgraded to the latest version of El Capitan, the battery level went away.

Does Apple monitor these forums to track such bugs or is there a formal way to report a bug? Sorry, I'm new to the OS X/iOS world. Been a Windows User since there was a Windows so all this is still new to me!

I also have this issue, my work around is just to show bluetooth on the menu bar and from there you can see the charge amount left for the keyboard and mouse/trackpad

I also do not have a battery level in System Preferences for the Magic Keyboard 2. It does give a battery level for the Magic Trackpad 2. This may have started with El Capitan; I just recently noticed it.

I can also click on the Mac menu Bluetooth icon and see a battery level for the keyboard and trackpad. The number is grey which is OK considering it is read only not an alterable value.

I also have a 2013 iMac 27 with the previous Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard. Both battery levels work on those from System Menu, even though it's running the same OS X 10.11.2.

My Magic Keyboard 2 stopped working so I guess it ran out of battery, I have been using it with Lightning cable connected which is also supposed to recharge the battery? It has been 2 days since I have the Lightning cable connected but if I unplug the cable the Magic Keyboard would not work at all and the device is not found on Bluetooth either. To add to this, I couldn't find the charge level while connecting to Lightning cable. Can anyone help please?

I'm still using OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5

Wireless Keyboard (original) works with 10.5x through 10.11.x.  Magic Keyboard states it works with ElCapitan/10.11.x.

Same with new trackpad.  Old Magic Trackpad works with 10.5.x and beyond.  Magic Trackpad 2 (new one) needs ElCapitan.
