gift recipient cannot redeem songs

I sent several songs and albums to my uncle 12/10/15. He received the emails from iTunes, but when he clicks on "redeem", he is prompted to install iTunes.

He already HAS the latest version. There is no code to redeem.

What should I advise him to do????? (this was for a birthday and is very embarrassing!)
