Q: shortcuts don't work correct in word 2016 (office 365). cmd E for example

In Word 2016 (office 365) the shortcut cmd+E produces a page break instead to center a paragraph.

ctr+shift+> doesn't work either. It should enlarge font size.

Any help?

Better then post your question on the Microsoft Mac forums since it's their software you're having trouble with.

I have tried there already, but didn't get a helpful answer. I hoped to find here guys who have had the same problem and already solved it.

I must have missed your question on answers.microsoft.com. Microsoft does change keyboard shortcuts between versions, but you can change them to whatever you prefer by using Tools>Customize Keyboard.

In that dialog, the left-hand list of Categories is broken down into main menu choices (File, Edit, etc.) to make it easier to find the command you're after. Some obscure commands are only under the All Commands category, so look there if you can't find your choice. Select the actual command from the Commands list, then click inside the Press new keyboard shortcut field. Press the keys you wish to use. Very important: to finalize your choice, click on the Assign button. OKing out without that loses the shortcut.

Usually a shortcut that you enter will over-ride a default program shortcut, but if you have an issue, you may have to remove or replace the keyboard shortcut from the interfering command.

That's the funny thing. The shortcut cmd+E is already in the command list and everything looks o.k. and I also did as you described. Only if I use it, it produces a completely wrong result. A page break instead to center a paragraph. Maybe the next update will solve my problem.

If you don't have a collection of custom keyboard shortcuts already, please consider opening Tools>Customize Keyboard and click on the Reset All... button. That will reset all shortcuts back to the defaults and may fix Command + E for you.

I have already tried, but it doesn't work. Cmd+L works, cmd+R works, but cmd+E fails. But thank you for your help anyway.

I'm curious if you're running El Capitan. I don't have this issue, but I'm still using Yosemite.

He said in his original post that he has El Capitan.

Too bad the original poster didn't take this to the Office for Mac forums as suggested here: Re: shortcuts don't work correct in word 2016 (office 365). cmd E for example where others with Office for Mac experience could chime in. I'm sure your assistance is great but there are many more opportunities to tap into others experience in the correct forum.

As I mentioned before, I already tried it in the Office for Mac forum, but only got no solution.

Please report this bug to Microsoft:

    1. Click on the smiley-face icon in the upper-right corner of the app.
    2. Choose Tell Us What Can Be Better.
    3. Include information necessary to replicate the issue, including your OS version, then submit.

What troubleshooting have you done on your Mac?  Have you deleted all office related preferences and plist files?  Have you trashed the cache and application support files?  Have you removed and reinstalled Office? Have you logged in as another user on  your computer to see if the issue persists?  Instead of us spoon-feeding you, please list what you have done in attempt to fix the issue.

I found your thread about this issue on the Microsoft site. At that time you were having issues with Microsoft Update not getting Office past 15.15. Did you get that figured out? The current version should be 15.17.1.

I also noticed on that thread that both you and the other person with this problem are German. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the German version of Word, as keyboard shortcuts can be different in different languages.

I still have Office 15.15 German version and there is no update available. Maybe it's really a local problem. In Word for Mac 2011 these shortcuts worked properly.
