Dec 14, 2015 4:16 PM in response to OGELTHORPEby lauradiant35,i tried resetting the pram by holding the r and p along with the command and option keys but it just keeps turning from black screen to white screen. If i reset the SMC do i need to do anything with the battery?

No. Read the directions for resetting the SMC for Macs where the battery should NOT be removed.

That is a real possibility. Try to boot the MBP in the recovery partition. From the 4 option menu select Disk Utility and run First Aid>Verify and Repair.
