Apple Watch and AT&T Number Sync

I have AT&T Number Sync working fine on a few Macs and an iPad, coordinated by my iPhone.

All works well -- I can even put the phone in airplane mode, or turn it completely off, and still use the Macs and the iPad for calling and texting.

I can also use the Apple Watch to make calls through the phone (as one has always been able to do). However, it won't make calls if the phone is not connected. II thought if the watch was on WiFi, it could be a Number Sync device too, even when the phone was disconnected or off. I have turned on WiFi calling in the watch app, and the watch is *NOT* in airplane mode.

Can anyone help me untangle this?

Thanks.

Same problem. Wifi calling totally unavailable on Apple Watch. Annoyingly it was working just fine when I initially set up the watch.

After about a week it stopped work and has never started working again. No matter what I try to do to troubleshoot the issue. I suspect it's a widespread problem, but it's difficult to detect so goes under reported (if it hadn't been working perfectly fine at first, then stopped working, I probably would have just assumed wifi calling was never available on the Apple Watch)

Update: still not working.

I called Apple about this. They're not too familiar with Number Sync, but they gave me the usual advice: restart the watch -- that didn't help; reset the watch -- that didn't help; unpair and re-pair the watch (a 30 minute operation) -- that didn't help either.

I've also re-booted the phone and toggled wifi calling off and on. Nothing helps.

Hi Linda

In order to use Wi-Fi calling, your Apple Watch needs to be connected to a known 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

To check whether this is the case:

  • Put your iPhone into Airplane Mode

Open Control Centre (by swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen) and tap on the Airplane Mode icon.

  • On your watch, go to the Settings Glance:
    • With the screen awake, swipe up on the watch face, then swipe left / right until you find the Settings Glance.
    • If the watch has successfully connected to Wi-Fi (allow a short while for it to do so, after it becomes disconnected via Bluetooth), this will state Connected and show a green cloud icon in the upper-right corner.
    • Otherwise, it will state Disconnected and show a crossed out phone symbol.
    • (Swipe down again to exit Glances and return to the watch face).

If the Glance states Disconnected:

  • Before starting, ensure that you have made a note of: your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network name, the type of encryption that it uses and your Wi-Fi password.
  • With your iPhone connected to the Wi-Fi network and with your watch close by and connected to your iPhone by Bluetooth:
    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Wi-Fi.
    • Tap on the "i" icon at the right hand side of your current Wi-Fi connection's entry.
    • On the next screen, tap on Forget This Network - allow a few moments.
    • With a short pause in between, disable and re-enable Wi-Fi using the toggle at the top of the Wi-Fi screen.
  • Then reconnect your iPhone to your Wi-Fi network.
    • If you have a hidden network (ie the network name / SSID is not broadcast), choose to add the network via "Other", then enter the network name, encryption type and password.
    • After your iPhone has reconnected, allow a short time for the information to be shared to your watch.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I came across this, and wanted to see if others have the same issue as me... I have this configured like you said here, however every day or so the FaceTime app opens on all of my Mac's to say "Emergency information has been updated..." really annoying... I'll be away from my computer for overnight and when i come back, the FaceTime app is open and says this on every machine of mine, and the camera is on me...

Super annoying 🙂

Anyone else get this and know a fix? For now I had to disable WiFi calling/Numbersync, but I'd like to be able to actually use it.

Thanks!
