50i videos are interpreted as 25i on FCPX

Hello,

I have a Samsung hmx-t10 cam recorder which shoot Full HD 1080i (50i)

When i import the files on Final cut pro X it shows 25i and i don't understand why ?

i create a new project and add some files when exporting am not able to choose 50i (like the source) i only can choose 25i or 25p

with 25i or 25p the video exported is not smooth 😟 like the tested source file. It's not even an acceptable smoothness ..

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

The 25i is Apple's nomenclature for 50i. 25 frames per second; 50 fields per second.

If you are not getting smooth playback, however, it's worth investigating why.

What are your hardware specs?

Where are you libraries and media stored?

How much free space do you have on your system drive and (if different) your media drive?

YYup, it's 50fps, and if it's really interlaced you're in for a world of hurt. TVs don't support 50fps interlaced. Interlacing of course looks horrible on a computer screen. I've only seen a little bit of this media and never worked with it. You might try making a custom project that's 50fps progressive and put your media in it and see how it behaves. You can't make a 50fps interlaced project because there is no such recognized standard.

Thanks for the explanation

My hardware is a 2015 macbook pro so 6th generation intel, i read the file from the ssd hardrive

it's not catastrophic as smoothness, but when i click pause i can see two images on the same time .. and sometime i can see horizontal lines when the cam move fast..

but when i read the fcpx exported 25i file (got by merging many 50i samsung cam recorder files) by my samsung smart tv (the file is located in this case on a NAS using gigabyte ethernet) the file is perfect !

the same test with a macbook (as i just said above) and a raspbery pi 2 and kodi give the smoothness issue ...

Sorry to give you incorrect info. Most of the time, it is simply a nomenclature distinction – without a difference. When I looked up the t-10 it just referred to 1080i 60 (or 50 in PAL region). As Tom noted it's a non-standard format.

If it plays OK on your TV, great. It will never look correct on a computer if there is any motion – whether it's 50 fields paper second (25i) or 100 fields a second (the Samsung format).

When i put my media on a custom 50p project, the exported file is good and smooth when i read it from my macbook nice !

But my smart Tv samsung do not accept 50p (but accept 50i 😐) which is logical samsung tv can read samsung cam files 😀

i guess i have to make two copies of my video library it depends of the reader 😁

or may buying new hardwares ? in this case what is the best fps to have today, 25i,25p,50p ??

as i already created projects with 25i from 50i files i have deleted the original files.. and i have only the 25i exported file not smooth ..

i tried to put this exported 25i to a new custom 50p project .. and it was smooth 🙂

so finally the fcpx export the source 50i (smooth) to 25i (not smooth) then export the 25i to 50p (smooth).. in another word no information has been lost when going to 25fps from 50 .. that's strange 😕
