My mac mini is not awoken from sleep by keyboard or mouse action, only a brief push of the power button will wake the mini. Any suggestions for a workaround or fix?

Resetting the SMC and PRAM are helpful suggestions... Easy enough to do, so I tried them. Too bad they had no effect. I'm still unable to awaken the Mac mini from the keyboard, mouse, or powering the display. The only thing that readily works to awaken the Mac is to tap the mini's rear (power button). So this is still an open problem for my mini.
Restart the computer into the Safe Mode by holding down the Shift Key on startup until it restarts. After it restarts on reset the PRAM one more time and then retest.
