Q: wireless works for vm not host computer

I have an airport extreme with a typical wireless network setup. For some reason, I am unable to browse the internet right now on my host machine or any other devices in the house. But my vm that is currently running on the host machine does have internet access and it is connected to my works VPN network. I don't have any ideas why this is happening but it seems to be happening pretty frequently. The only solution I have found is to unplug the airport and replug it in. After doing that, all things seem to go back to normal. I did this last night and now am at a point where I have to do it again.

Anyone seen anything like that or have any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Thanks

    Hello sergiop23,

It sounds like the OS in your VM is able to access Wi-Fi but nothing else in the house is until you restart the Airport Extreme by unplugging it. I would start by checking to see if you have the recommended settings for your other devices with this article:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

If the issue persist then the Airport Express may need to be hard reset or even reset to the default settings:

    • Hard reset: Perform this reset for troubleshooting and resolving problems with an unresponsive device, or to troubleshoot network accessibility issues.
    • Default Settings reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the device and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

Take a look at the rest of the information in the article about what these resets entail. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, let us know how that goes!
