Q: New Update Disabled Touch Screen?

I woke up this morning with a functioning iphone 5s and an alert saying there was a new iOS update. I went ahead and had it update while I got ready and once it was done I couldn't get it to recognize my touch. The home, lock, and volume buttons worked but the screen is completely unresponsive. I did a hard restart and it erased my lock screen image as well as my contact names. I am still getting notifications but I can't respond, scroll, or even answer phone calls.

I understand that the touchscreen on your iPhone has suddenly become unresponsive. I know this is an unsettling experience given it is all of a sudden, so in order to start troubleshooting this issue please follow through the steps below.

Check your touchscreen
Make sure that your hands are clean and dry, then try these steps:

If you have a case or screen protector on your device, try removing it.

Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Unplug your device.

Restart your device. If you can't restart it, you can force restart your device.
If your touchscreen still doesn't respond like it should, contact Apple Support or take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
If the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn‘t respond to touch
