I had the same problem with A5 and A7 speakers. It was nothing to do with router position or speed. (I changed from BT Broadband Infinity to Virgin Media cable - lots of bandwidth, router close to speakers, latest firmware, etc etc. It made no difference what device I was streaming from - iPhone, iPad, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iMac, and whether I was streaming from the internet or from a CD playing locally.

I was on the point of giving up but this seems to be the solution (for me). Wifi networks and devices operate either on 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz frequencies. 2.4 GHz is the older standard and is more widely used. Modern routers operate on both. Routers also broadcast on a range of channels - from 1 to 13 for the 2.4 GHz frequency. By default the channel used is usually set automatically so that the router can 'channel hop' to find the best channel.

Bowers & Wilkins operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency and it is possible (as in my case) that you are suffering from interference from nearby wifi networks operating on the same frequency and channel. The solution for me was to log in to my router and change the channel setting for the 2.4 GHz frequency network from Auto to a fixed channel - I used 11 as I believe it is less frequently used, but you could try others.

Quite simple to do and it seems to have worked for me.

I am running 10.11.2 captain on my mac book pro

Reseting the system management controller SMC should have resolved the problem as per advice from on line chat with apple iTunes support; however the problem has not gone away as I did play remote to my Mirantaz Receiver to Bose speakers; the airplay drops still intermittent. To understand if it was related to the operating system upgrade of apple I used window 7 lap top and it appears to play fine.

Conclude: Apple 10.11.2 and earlier version seems to root cause; apple must fix this issue as I play apple music via subscription of $12/month.

I suggest you try this trouble shoot and let me know if your work.

steps

Before SMC reset press command option escape to force quit any application and put to sleep mode; wake it up and do a restart and do a shut down.

Mac book with non removable battery reset method

Plug magsafe to power source.

on built in key board press all the buttons at same time Shift-Control-Option and RELEASE AT THE SAME TIME.

PRESS POWER BUTTON to turn on computer.

CHECK THIS METHOD as it a document link sent sent to me from apple support.

Interesting., I am running a 2014 Mac PC and, using a recently purchased AirPort Extreme router I am also running el captain.

i Run my bowers a7 mostly through AirPlay using my iPad air 2 or my iPhone 6plus. The PC has no problems. its only when I play through my iPad or phone I get the skips in the beginning Of a song or the air play simply drops back to AirPlay From the a7 setting.

i Suspect it maybe the router, but it's hard to confirm. Plus I have lots of wifis in my complex. Sometimes the speaker sound goods sometimes lously!
