wireless printing to Canon MP460

I having trouble adding a printer so that i can print via my wireless print server. I'm trying to add a canon MP460.

A couple points: (1) using a my MS windows laptop I am able to successfully print via the wireless print server to the MP460, and (2) I can print successfully to the MP460 from my iMac when directly attached via USB.

When I try to add an IP printer via the Printer Setup Utility the Canon MP460 printer model is not available in the drop down list. If I select More Printers... and select the "Canon IJ Network" there are no products in the list.

Help!!! Please.

I have this printer and needed to download the MP460 driver from Canon because it didn't come with OS X. Sounds like you did this, but just in case...

You should see the MP460 under Bonjour after hitting print.

Instead of using IP Printer you should use the Default Browser and select Canon IJ Printer from the Print Using dropdown. You should hit Add then, not More Printers.

If you have added the printer when you are plugged in directly through USB you'll need to add it again wirelessly. This was my experience and caused a lot of confusion because it sees the printer, but can't print to it.

Thank you for the quick reply; unfortunately, i still have not been able to get the wireless printing via a print server to work.

Were you successfull in printing wireless to the MP460? According to Canon, they do not support this.

I have tried using the Printer Setup Unitilty to add a Default Browser printer and unless the printer is connected to the USB port, it is not visable in the Printer Name/Connection list. Obviously, when it is connected via USB, the connection type says USB.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Interesting, I'm able to print wirelessly with my AX. I didn't know Canon wasn't supporting this. Maybe it doesn't work on all systems.

I was able to see the MP460 under the Bonjour dropdown. When I selected it I had to do the whole Add Printer... thing.

I picked the Canon IJ driver from the menu (that's the driver that you install from the link in my other post). Then I proceeded and there was a new entry in my printer dropdown list.

Maybe you should go into Printer Utility and delete the other config for the printer (the wired, direct usb one). I don't think I even have a config for that and it may be confusing it.

I am having trouble printing to the MP460 using a Linksys wireless print server (WPS54G). Everything is working well using a pc to print.

I can see the print server in the default printer list. But when I select it, I do not see a Canon IJ driver in the dropdown list as mentioned above. All of the Canon printers listed use the Gimp print driver.

I'm thinking I need to choose "other" and select the driver I installed from the Canon site (from Matthew's post above). Once the driver is installed, where is it located and what type of file is it?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg
