Q: Messages will not display on my vehicles screen

I have an iPhone 6 Plus using ios 9.2 and can not seem to view messages on my vehicles screen? Screen simply reads: "No Messages" I have a 2013 BMWX5. I don't have this issue with my Samsung Galaxy S5. Also when I plug in my phone using the USB wire to listen to my music, it never remembers where I've left off and starts from the very beginning and I find myself having to unplug it & plug it back in again to get it to play music. It is very sporadic in its workings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
