Audio from Mail will not play on lock screen since 9.2!

Just discovered that if you import the MP3 to the notes app, then play the song from the note, it will continue to play even when backgrounded!

Apple dropped the ball by forcing us to be so hacky about this. iPhone should be self sufficient without a computer! I guess no one respects the music team there...

I'm using Opera browser instead to log into my email and you can lock the screen and continue listening to audio, problem solved... hopefully they repair this feature as it was more or less the only reason to use the mail app.

Thank you so much!! I write and record meditation and hypnotherapy. I put them MP3 format, and I like review them as a client would without interruption. Then I get all set, hear a sentence or two and my phone locks.

Thank you for ths, thought it was just me. Even written off icloud drive because of it but now I see Apple really messed that one up.

Bump. I work with music and need this to work again ASAP.

I am thrilled i'm not the only one who noticed this and is very frustrated by it. It seems so minor but when you use audio clips every single day, this change is horrible, and I can only hope and pray that it gets fixed in 9.3. I've had to set my phone to not lock for 3 minutes and make sure to tap the screen every once in a while. If you listen while you're driving like me, this becomes a nightmare.

PLEASE Apple. Fix this.

Any word if there's a work-around for this besides setting lock time to 5 minutes? Work in music as well, and it's really annoying!! Please fix!

Same here ...Personally, I'm mainly bothered about iCloud Drive on iOS. Why has the capability to play in the background been stopped? This was an essential feature ...especially seeing that iCloud Music Library won't sync anything over 2hrs long or 200mb large. I was using iCloud Drive as an Apple Music overspill where the larger files could still be synced to my phone via the cloud. That was a bit of a rubbish workaround, and now I can't even do that. Surely Apple can return these apps to background audio capable??!!

I've figured out the solution to the problem. If you manually lock your screen yourself, when the MP3 starts, it will continue you to play in lock mode. However, if the phone locks on its own, it will stop. Hope this helps...

Hey, thanks for replying! ...Sorry to say tho that this doesn't work for me. The audio stops whether screen lock is manual or auto.

I'm an iPhone 5S with OS 9.2.1 and this is the same with my iPad Air 2 as well. Bit rubbish innit?! ✖

Guys! They made it difficult for us musicians who need to preview audio from E-Mail servers, and have that audio play through the lock screen and app multi-tasking. The answer is this app : "Unify - Cloud File manager" It's an Iphone app so if you're on an ipad click the iphone app option to see it. You won't have access to attachments but you can start using the gmail drive to send the files. Can also see other clouds like dropbox etc from here. It's a little different but at least we can work around it for now. CHEERS

Just wanted to let you guys know -- when you add an audio file to your notes, it will continue to play on the lock screen. Just discovered this today and I think it's the temporary fix I've been needing. Hope it helps!

Holy mother of programming! THANK YOU nat892! I was loosing my mind over this and I thought it was just me. Adding the file to my notes is the perfect fix (for now)!
