iCloud - Simple Guide

Just starting to think of using iCloud to access documents in varied locations. Is there a simple guide to how to do this. Most that I have found on the internet seems to major on iTunes (don't use it) or Photos which I store locally. I did find something on the Apple site which promotes how you can use it, but this is short on usable detail - more saying how good it is!

I would like to find a straightforward guide to working on documents locally using Word or Pages on an iMac and then accessing them when away on other MAC laptop.
