If AirDrop isn't working, one possibility is the age of the Mac. See the quote below from Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support
To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012).

And before replying you could have read my post where I mentioned that the "age" of your Mac might be a possible issue. Nowhere in the subject line or the body of your post do you mention whether it was a 2012 or newer model.
