Add website to favorites bar

I can't remember how to add a bookmarked site to my favorites bar. I'm using an iPad 2. Found online instructions which don't at all match my machine i.e. + sign by address box- don't have one; favorites bar choice under favorites in bookmarks, don't have one. I've done it in the past but can't remember how I did it. Help. Thnx.

You all are still missing what I am trying to do. I have 23 items in favorites bookmarks, 11 in favorites bar. When I add a site to bookmarks and put it into favorites file, it does not automatically go onto the favorites bar. I always had to choose to put things there myself. That is what don't remember how to do . On my laptop I just grab it from the address box and pull it onto the favorites bar. Can't do that on my iPad. One website I visited today told me to just pull it to favorites bar. That did not work either. I know I have done it in the past because those 11 sites are there. I can remove them and rename them but I can't add. If I tap the three little dots at the right of the bar, all my favorites are displayed. That graphic you show above only adds to the favorites in bookmarks, not to the favorite bar. I checked my settings and they look good.
