Q: OS X Profile Manager migration

Hi Team,

We already have Profile manager setup in our organisation, but the macmini is not working properly on which it is configured. It keeps getting hang or gets shutdown without any notification. Which has caused many issues, like damaged OD database, new enrollment of systems and others. So i have decided to change it. I already have brand new good configuration macmini on which i want to move existing profile manager.

So i need your help like what all steps to take in profile manager migration. Below i have mentioned some more information about existing profile manager which can help you.

Existing Profile Manger (Macmini)

OS X - El Capitan 10.11.2

Server.app - 5.0.4

Time Machine Backup - Yes

OD Database Backup - Yes (Daily)

DNS Entry - Registered

New Macmini

OS X - El Capitan 10.11.2

Server.app - 5.0.4

Please let me know if you want to know some extra stuff, but i need to complete this activity soon.

Thanks,

Ashish

The recommended way is to use Migration Assistant (via target disk mode)

Before you setup the new one, open Migration Assistant and connect the old one in Target Disk Mode and migrate across.

You need a Thunderbolt cable, firewire cable or external hard disk caddy and remove hard disk.

    Hi Richard,

Will it move Open Directory Database as well (Devices and Device Groups)?

IP Address and Hostname would be changed of the new system. Will it make any difference while migration? Because devices are already enrolled with old Profile Manager details, so do i have take another step to get connected with new profile manager?

    Thanks,

    Ashish

Did you ever find a method other than the duplicating the whole thing.  I have the same situation and have tried the whole db back then restore on the new machine but it doesn't work right as the pages error out when trying to manage the profiles to make changes.
