Overheated Mac HELP!

In the last week my MacBook Pro (13in, Mid 2012) [processor 2.9 GHz intel core i7, storage 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3]has started to overheat, and I mean real hot. It has always been really warm but never hot to the touch and the fan has been running so high recently. Also, after I charge to the full 100% and unplug my Mac can't hold its usual battery life. What is happening to my baby?! I do not do heavy work or have any apps that may cause my Mac to freak out, so that is not the case. I am just a student, writing essays and the usual thing. I've tried doing a SMC reset, that didn't seem to work, I've let my mac die completely then replug and try - doesn't change. Im really stressed because I cannot afford another computer. and I haven't even had this one very long. Please Help!!

I have a feeling it might be the new El Capitan Update because since then my Mac has been burning me.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

What is the cycle count on the battery?

Determining battery cycle count for Mac notebooks - Apple Support

What are the temps and fan speed when hot and what is using CPU?

Install a temp and fan speed monitoring app like iStat or Mac Fan Control.

Go to Activity Monitor and look under CPU tab. Make sure the in View, all processes are selected.

This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.
