'Greyed out' tracks on itunes

Some tracks on iTunes on my PC have become 'greyed out' and will not transfer to my iphone. I can play them on the pc and they were originally on my phone?

I have got the same problem, but it is very odd, only some songs within albums are greyed out even though they appear to be checked. I think this is happening mostly with music that I originally uploaded from CDs. I have tried unchecking and rechecking the checkboxes in accordance with the advice given but this does not change things. Any ideas? (iMac, Yosemite)
