Q: iPhone 6 Battery Drain
Over the last few days my battery has been draining incredibly faster than usual – about a percent every minute of use perhaps. The only settings that I can think I changed before this was to upgrade my iCloud account to 50GB capacity (I hadn’t backed my phone up for over 6 months because I had run out of iCloud space) and I changed the cookies to ‘always allow’ due to one website I had to use.
I have taken all the reasonable steps I can to save battery consumption such as turning off background app refresh and ensuring auto brightness is on and indeed not automatically turning up too high.
However, the problem seems to be Safari which is using 40% plus of my battery according to the battery usage in the settings. I have Safari linked with iCloud to sync with my iPad so not sure if it’s something to do with that in the background. Although when I turned that feature off for a bit there didn’t seem to be any improvement. This is also a feature I use regularly and therefore not a reasonable solution in any case. I also deleted all cookies and history and shut down the app as well as turning the phone off and on and re-booting it. Again, to no avail.
Although I installed iOS 9.2 some time before the battery started draining, I read that it might be something to do with a problem app, in my case Safari, not having fully downloaded and trying to correct itself in the background. So I have restored my phone and installed the latest backup from iTunes on my laptop but the problem still persists.
I've seen in older posts that this has been a problem for some people but its causes seem to be random and no one solution out there. Is this still a general problem related to a bug in the software and is there any way to actually solve it?
I also can't believe how hard it is to get useful support from Apple who I thought were renowned for their customer support! Automated machine every time you call, no email addresses, no store appointments for 7 days, lots of website link errors - generally had a right nightmare!
