If that does't work, launch Terminal and copy & paste this command at the flashing cursor.
sudo /usr/bin/dscl . -delete /Users/old user name"
Press Return.
The other thing you could do since it's brand new is to wipe the disk, do a factory fresh install of the OS and use Migration Manager.
If you still have your old Mac you could also use Target Disk Mode to move the files and delete the account.

Choose Disk Utility and erase your HDD. Then follow the instructions to download Be sure to use internet recovery to re-install the original version of OS X that came with your Mac. Or, if you prefer upgrade to El Capitan.
