Q: How To Let My iPod Shuffle Play Songs From The Playlists

Hi,

I have an iPod Shuffle.

I would like my iPod Shuffle to play songs form the "playlists". Instead of playing all songs form different albums and arties all on my iPod Shuffle.

So how do I do that from my iTunes?

Do I rip the songs from my CDs, and create playlists, then upload the songs and playlist?

Thanks in advance.

Yes... If you want to play from playlists, instead of shuffling songs from the All Songs list, the shuffle needs to have playlists.  (And ripping songs from your CDs to get them into your iTunes library would be the first step.)

There are two ways to load the shuffle, manually and using automatic syncing.  The more convenient way to put and maintain playlists on the shuffle is to set it up to automatically sync selected playlists.

Create playlists (in iTunes) that you want to sync to the shuffle.  Or you can use existing playlists.

Then, select the shuffle in iTunes, so that you see its settings screen in the iTunes window.  Along left side of window, in the sidebar, under Settings, select Music.  To the right, you see the iPod's Music settings screen.

NOTE:  Any songs on your shuffle that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.  No problem if your iTunes library has all songs.

At the top of window, checkmark the box for Sync Music.  This turns ON automatic syncing.  Below that, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, under Playlists, find and select those playlist with songs for your shuffle.  The "capacity bar" at the bottom of window shows how much space is used on shuffle by your selections.  Click Apply button to sync selected playlists and songs to shuffle.  Going forward, you can update those playlists (add/remove songs) in your iTunes library.  Your shuffle does not need to be connected.  iTunes automatically updates shuffle with the same changes the next time you connect it (or click Sync if already connected).

When you play the shuffle, use the VoiceOver feature to select the playlist you want to use.  This document describes how to enable and use VoiceOver.
