Q: hp laserjet printer 1200 driver replacement? (El Capitan)

My printer suddenly stopped working. I deleted the printer settings (for HP LaserJet 1200) and tried to reconnect/reassign it. I'm now getting the error message that this software is not available on the Software Update center. Is there a way to get it to work again? thanks.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I just tried using a Generic Printer description, and that seems to work now.

Hmmm...
I don't have that printer, but it is supposed to be available via software update system. Read here:
Printer and scanner software available for download for your Mac - Apple Support
This may be one of the cases where Resetting your Printing System will help, because it forces the CUPS print system to restart, which also makes a new index of "where to get drivers."

I may try the radical reset. The generic postscript driver seems to work for now. thanks very much.
