Q: Import photos to Mac and not take up iCloud storage
Hello,
I have recently purchased my first Apple computer (a MacBook Pro).
I have (about) 4Gb of photos saved on Google Photos that I have thought about downloading onto my MacBook Pro.
Is there a way to download these photos onto my MacBook without taking up precious iCloud storage space, which I realise would mean that they would not be viewable on my other Apple devices.
I know I could increase my iCloud storage capabilities by purchasing more storage, however I thought I would ask anyway...

Two possibilities:
Download them to your Mac but don't import them into the Photos app on your Mac.
or
import them into a second Photo library and insure that it is not the one designated as the system photo library:
