In your case, when you do the Reset, have your iPod connected to the computer and have iTunes running. If that does not work, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode.

If iTunes prompts you to do a Restore, be prepared to do the Restore. The Restore will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
