Windows 10 update breaks wifi on late-model MBP
Hi all,
I've been using Windows 10 via Boot Camp on my mid-2015 rMBP. No issues with it . . . until Windows 10 did an update yesterday. I use Windows daily for various things, so I assume this is a very recent update and not something I missed.
It was a big update, when the computer rebooted, I got a bunch of new WELCOME screens that assured me that all my files are in the same place. How reassuring.
Anyway, everything seems to be working fine except my ability to stay on a wifi network. It connects, just fine, seems to be working, but after a variable length of time (15 minutes is about the max), the wifi connection goes down, and the wifi icon in the tray at the bottom changes to a monitor and cable icon, I assume because Windows is trying to use a nonexistent ethernet connection.
I have tried several things to remedy the situation, all to no avail. The first was to use Boot Camp Assistant to redownload the Windows Support drivers, and I reinstalled them. No change. I called Apple support, who recommended an SMC reset, which I did. They also recommended calling Windows Support, who told me it was my internet provider, which I can't see how that's the case. I called Apple back, and with the tech remoting in, of COURSE the connection was stable. As soon as I got off the phone, it went down again.
A couple of times, I saw an error message in Windows that said, I believe, svchost had crashed. I've googled issues with svchost, but most of those links lead to software I can buy to let someone remote in and do something. Ugh. I'm sure that wifi hasn't been an issue because I can confirm with my iPad that wifi is in fact still up when these issues occur, and I have rock-solid connections in Mac OS.
I'm not super Windows-savvy, so I don't really know what else to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If any other information would be useful, I would gladly provide it.
