Final Cut Express 4.0.1

Hi! So I have an old version of Final Cut Express (4.0.1) and an old Mac OS X (10.6.8). I'm having trouble with photo resolution in Final Cut. Even after rendering, the photos appear blurry, both in still frames and moving across the page. Also, besides just being blurry, the patterns, backgrounds, and even the faces in pictures wave and squiggle as the picture moves. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Thanks!
