iTunes links won't open in Chrome Browser

There was a fix that worked a long time ago, but it no longer works. The old non working fix is below. Does any one have a workaround other than using another browser to open iTunes links?

  • Save these instructions somewhere safe and close all Chrome windows.
  • Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  • Click View in the top menu > Options > View > Show hidden files, folders and drives > OK.
  • Right click the Local State file > Open with > Notepad.
  • Press Ctrl+F and search for “itms” or “itmss”. After that, it will either say “true” or “false”.
  • Delete this section of the file (ie. delete "itmss":false) but do not close the Local State file yet.
  • Open Chrome and go to an iTunes page (example).
  • Click View in iTunes and you will see an External Protocol Request dialog appear.
  • Check the Remember checkbox and click Launch Application.

There are two methods to solve this problem:

Method (1):

  1. Open Windows Explorer and go to
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\
  2. Click View in the top menu > Options > View > Show hidden files, folders and drives > OK.
  3. Right click the Local State file > Open with > Notepad.
  4. Press Ctrl+F and search for
    itms
    or
    itmss
. After that, it will either be set to
    true
    or
    false
    .Note: You might not find
    itms
    or
    itmss
, it's not an issue, continue the steps...
  5. Delete this section of the file (ie. delete "itmss":false) but do not close the Local State file yet.
  6. Open Chrome and go to an iTunes page (example).
  7. Type in the address bar
    javascript:its.detect.itunesDetected=function(){return true;}
    and press Enter
  8. Click View in iTunes and you will see an External Protocol Request dialog appear.
  9. Check the Remember checkbox and click Launch Application.

Viola, iTunes is in the game again! 🙂
