Q: macbook pro 2008 reboot

My MacBook pro 15 " late 2008 was not responding.

  • I shut down
  • Tried safe reboot, it shut down in the middle of the reboot
  • Reboot to disk utility
  • Ran the utility to fix errors, it had a code 8 error
  • Tried other methods to reboot,

Any guidance on how to access my data?

How does an SSD run on the late 2008 model?

Thks,

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Code 8 is the hard drive needs to be repaired. If you cannot do so in disk utilities then depending on the operating system. You ether boot to recovery Command R and reinstall. Or if the operating system is older and does not have recovery. You need the install disk to reinstall. If recovery fails. You will need to erase the indented disk with disk utilities and reinstall from recovery. Use an ethernet connection it is more stable. Do you have the drive backed up?

Thank you for the prompt response. I tried all and the reboot shuts down mid way through the process.

I was trying to reinstall via CMD R, but i get Disk Locked. How can I unlock the disk?

OK. Here is a list of the different screens that show on Mac's.   https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204156 If what you have is the last one. That is a firmware password screen. If you do not know the firmware password. You would have to take it in to an apple store to be reset.
