It sounds like iMessage isn't working on both of your iOS devices. I would need information on what exact issue you are experiencing with Messages to provide a better answer. However, here are the best troubleshooting articles to go through that cover most issues with Messages.
If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime
If you can‘t send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

They couldn't rectify the problem, so they arranged for somebody to ring me. They in turn referred me to a more senior helper. After just over 3 hours in total, he worked out that it was Vodafone or the sim card causing the problem. Subsequently a 10 minute call to Vodafone put it all right. Hey Ho!
