Why does iTunes say "iCloud photos is on"

Hi everyone,

having some issues with my itunes and have done for a while. When my phone is plugged in iTunes used to show all the folders and allow me to select what I wanted on my iPhone. Now however it's changed, it just says "iCloud photos is on" but shows nothing else. It's super frustrating because I need a couple of the albums on my phone. Any idea how to get it working correctly ?
iPhone 6 9.2

Macbook Pro Late 2013 10.11.1

Thanks in advance

If you are using iCloud Photo Library (on the phone: Settings > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photo Library) then you cannot sync photos to the phone using iTunes.

If you are using Photos on your MacBook you could turn on Photos > Preferences > iCloud (at the top of the Preferences window) > iCloud Photo Library. Be aware that will copy your entire Photos library to iCloud and to your iPhone.

If you don't want to do that, another option to transfer a few photos to the phone would be to manually upload them into the Photos app at https://www.icloud.com/ by going to that site from your computer and uploading the photos. They would then automatically sync to your iPhone.
