Q: Computer does not provide location in Find My iPhone

I have a Early 2008, 24 inch mac, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo computer. I discovered using the Find My iPhone feature indicates this computer is on line but does not provide available location.  Find my iPhone features is turned on in iCloud. In the Security and Privacy reference, Show location icon in menu bar... is turned on. I reset settings and restarted still receive the same message.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

A computer does not have GPS or a cellular connection like a phone does and those are two of the technologies that can be used to determine the location of a device. A 3rd method is by comparing the wi-fi signal that the computer is receiving against a database of known approximate locations of devices emitting wi-fi signals. If wi-fi isn't on or if there aren't any know signals in the area then that method won't work either.
