Q: i am trying to install el captian. my computer wants me to remove things from my start up disk . How do i do that?

    Your Startup disk is the drive you have the OS installed on.

    The message told you that there isn't enough space on the startup drive to install. So, you need to remove some of your documents, pictures, Movies, etc. that you no longer need on your Mac. If you need to keep them, move them to an external drive to archive them. Don't forget to backup your archive, too.

    Sometimes, you can reclaim space by emptying the trash in iPhoto and iMovie. They have their own trash bins and you have to empty them separately from the OS Trash folder.
