I want to share services such as my music and other computer services from my computer to apple tv 4th but the instructions tell me to turn off the firewall. Won't that make me vulnerable to hackers or what ever on the internet?

Not really. If your computer running iTunes and your Apple TV are both on your home wifi then your router IS a firewall. As long as you are running WPA2 wifi encryption then you don't really need to worry about running a software firewall on your computer.
Others might disagree but it comes down to balancing paranoia with usability. 🙂
I have apple airport router and am not aware of any software firewall unless the elcappitan operating system provides one but under settings - security and privacy, firewall is turned on. Is there anyway to turn off firewall only to in home devices vs turning it completely off. How do I check for WPA2 wifi encryption. By the way, no other device I've used on wifi has asked me to turn off the firewall. Can you give me any more insights???
