Q: ios 9 update put my ipad 4 in boot loop.

I purchased an ipad 4 just under 2 years ago from my local apple store, it has been great up until I updated to ios9. Once it started to update, it began to power cycle on its own. After doing some research, it was evident that this was a common problem with those who jailbreak their devices. But why was this happening to me? I purchased it from apple. They (bloggers) called it the "boot loop of death". I put it into recovery mode and proceeded to do a full restore.  I tried all recommended steps to rectify this issue by making sure computers were current, cords were good, software was updated, but I kept getting error 9 (usb connection issue) unable to restore. The ipad will start updating (apple logo with progress bar) things are starting to look up like its going to work then the ipad begins to cycle power, cutting off the connection giving me the error 9 . ITunes stops the update then the ipad goes back to recovery mode. Frustrated, I drove to the apple store to see the "geniuses" hoping that there was some magical fix. They told me to buy a new one since I didnt have apple care. Game over. So does anyone know how to get this to stop power looping so I can get a restore done?

    Greetings collinsbrn,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you were having some trouble after attempting to update your iPad and performed a great step by trying to restore it from recovery mode. When you try to restore, you are receiving error 9 and have tried to troubleshoot that error as well by making sure your computer is up to date and checking the cables.

To continue troubleshooting this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the suggested steps for this error located in the following page.

    Check your security software

    Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.

Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.

Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.

If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues.

Hello, thanks for reply. All software is current, security settings allow iphone so ipad should work. No usb connections other than keyboard, mouse, and ipad connected. Ipad battery keeps charge. when shutting down, the slide bar does not appear so I have to do a hard shutdown. ipad will not stay powered off when connected. I have windows 10 and a macbook that will not update past OSX 10.6.8. Ipad behaves the same on both computers during the beginning of restore. At the end of extracting software the ipad will start power cycling or internally disconnecting which interrupts the restore process causing the failure of the restore. Once the restore fails, it goes straight back to recovery mode. No progress yet.
