Q: El Capitan Mac not mirroring with Apple TV 4

When I attempt to mirror my Mac screen my tv just goes black and doesn't display anything. Even in the menu bar on my Mac it says air play to "Apple TV" but I don't get those display options like I should showing if I want to mirror, or use a separate desktop, none of those options. Is there something I need to turn on / turn off to get my Mac to mirror to the Apple TV 4?

    Hey JBS-GUY,

I understand that you're not getting anything to display on your TV when using AirPlay to from your Mac to your Apple TV. In such a situation, you may be in Extended Desktop mode rather than mirroring. You can switch as outlined below.

Mirror your display or extend your desktop

You can also use AirPlay to mirror or extend everything on your Mac display. The display must be connected and awake.

    1. Click the AirPlay icon  AirPlay icon in the menu bar, then choose your Apple TV under "Connect To AirPlay Display." The icon turns blue when your Mac is using an AirPlay display.
    2. From the same AirPlay menu, choose either Extended Desktop or one of the mirroring options under "Use AirPlay Display To."

Use AirPlay to display video from your Mac on an HDTV
