Q: Is it possible to reset iTunes back to new settings?

I would like to reset iTunes back to how it was when I first got my Mac. I would like to get rid of all backups and everything and start all over again. Is that possible in El Capitan?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

    Hello, Gozer182.

Thanks for the question.  I understand you want to completely remove any media located in iTunes and start over.  The easiest way to achieve these results would be to simply create a new iTunes library.  You can do this via the steps below.

    Mac

    1. If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
    2. Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
    3. You'll see a message that says Choose iTunes Library. Depending on what you want to do, choose Create Library or Choose Library.

Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one

Once this is done and you are 100% sure that you want to delete your iTunes media, you can locate your iTunes media folder in the location below.  You will simply need to drag the iTunes folder that is located in the Music folder to the trash.  The article below is just for reference.  However,  I would suggest making a backup of your media via the article below just incase.

Locate your iTunes folder:By default, the iTunes folder is located in:
Mac: Finder > username > Music

Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive
