Installing Bootcamp Drivers on an Existing Fusion VM

Apple instructions for installation and use of Bootcamp drivers on existing Fusion VMs are non-existent, and what is there makes no sense for this application.

When I connect a Superdrive to the Macbook, a dialog is raised that permits the option of mounting the Superdrive to Windows or to the Mac. However, there is a caution that the VM might be crashed if the Bootcamp drivers are not installed on the VM.

How does one install the Bootcamp drivers on a Fusion VM (which is already set up and running just fine)?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Did the Fusion VM originally start as a BootCamp installation that you created the VM from?

Out of curiosity, I just tried running a Fusion Windows VM on a rMBP which is running Mountain Lion with a SuperDrive connected and Fusion simply connected the SuperDrive and Windows offered to copy the contents. The Windows VM never complained about wanting BootCamp drivers (I've never used BootCamp, preferring the virtues of VM's).

What version of Fusion are you using? My test was with Fusion 6 but I do get Fusion asking if the built-in optical drive on a Mac Pro should be connected to the Mac or the VM in Fusion 7.

Since there's some odd behavior in Fusion 8 (see this post in the Fusion Communities), you might try posting the question on the Fusion forum especially if that's what you're using.
