Is Apple Music preferred opposite iTunes match?

Hi,

I am using iTunes Match for two weeks and the iCloud Mediathek is still "matching" my songs. Many songs were matched and uploaded, some are still waiting for an iCloud status.

Yesterday I subscribed to Apple Music with my iPhone. The songs, which still are waiting for an iCloud status, have now the status "Apple Music".

Now I am confused.

I thought a song, which is in the big Apple library and is stored on my device, can be downloaded DRM free and 256 kb/s (with iTunes Match). But it seems that these unmatched songs were provided by Apple Music first for DRM restricted download (they were added into a new folder "Apple Music").

Does iTunes delete the "Apple Music" songs after matching the origin song, that is still on the local device? 😕

Thanks for a hint,

Chris

First of all, there was something wrong with the iTunes Match process for you. It should not take two weeks to complete the matching/uploading process.

Hopefully, when everything finishes, the result will look right. If you subscribe to both iTunes Match and Apple Music, your owned songs that are matched can be downloaded at 256 kbps AAC (no DRM). Subscribed songs from Apple Music can be downloaded at 256 kbps AAC (with DRM).

NOTE: The original iTunes library media files stored on your Mac (used for matching and uploading) are not altered or replaced. If you want to download a higher quality 256 kbps song file to replace a lower quality file (for a matched song), you use iTunes to Remove Download for that song, and then download it from your iCloud music library.
