the workaround doesn't work for me. All my tags are in Favorites already, but yet Finder doesn't remove/add tags to multiple files properly. It just tags all the selected files with union of all the tags.

It may have gotten broken more with 10.11.2. I hadn't checked to see if there had been any changes. Or, it wasn't working the way I thought.
