Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If I understand correctly, your iPod nano isn't recognized by iTunes on your PC and you've already tried quite a bit of troubleshooting while trying to resolve the issue. The article below provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the issue.

So long.

Dec 21, 2015 3:30 PM in response to Jason Lby momsandyf,I tried all of that already. Nothing worked. I had no problems before I upgraded to Windows 10.

Dec 21, 2015 7:03 PM in response to momsandyfby Kenichi Watanabe,When you connect it to the computer, watch the iPod's screen. Does it acknowledge the connection (says "Do not disconnect" or other message)? Or does it show only the battery charging indicator? Or does it not react at all to being connected?

Dec 22, 2015 1:03 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby momsandyf,I get the 'do not disconnect' message, so the iPod seems to be working correctly.

Dec 22, 2015 4:45 AM in response to momsandyfby Kenichi Watanabe,So, the system appears to be recognizing the iPod, although iTunes does not.
Just to confirm, if your previous version of iTunes was earlier than iTunes 12, the iPod appears in iTunes as a small "device button" on the horizontal bar that goes across the screen.
You can try putting it into Disk Mode

Then, connect it to the computer. If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery." A Restore erases the iPod.

Dec 22, 2015 9:48 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby momsandyf,That does not work either. There is nothing on the iTunes bar such as a device button (I have checked everything). The only section in putting it into disk mode that seemed to apply to my model was the 6th generation (I have 1st or 2nd so I don;t even know if it has disk mode capability). I tried that, and still iTunes does not recognize it. It knows there is an iPod connected, but can't recognize it.

Dec 22, 2015 9:57 AM in response to momsandyfby Kenichi Watanabe,For your older iPod, the section of the Disk Mode document you use is iPod devices with a Click Wheel. Your iPod has a Disk Mode.

Dec 22, 2015 10:34 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby momsandyf,There is no click wheel. As far as I can tell there is no 'hold' switch. I have 3 buttons: the power button, and a volume up and a volume down button. There is nothing in settings to place it in hold or do anything else. So if you know how to work this model, please enlighten me. This is getting frustrating, as nothing is doing any good!

Dec 22, 2015 10:38 AM in response to momsandyfby Kenichi Watanabe,It's not a 1st or 2nd gen iPod nano, if it does not have a click wheel. This web page shows all iPod models. I can't see what you have, so if you can identify your iPod model

we'll be on the same page...

Dec 22, 2015 10:44 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby momsandyf,The box it came in just says iPod nano (I have the original box) , but it looks like 6th generation. But I already tried that method since it was the closest I could find and it doesn't do anything either.

Dec 22, 2015 11:02 AM in response to momsandyfby Kenichi Watanabe,If it's squarish clip-on design, it's a 6th gen iPod nano. When you used the Disk Mode procedure, the iPod's screen should say something about "disk mode." If it does not, you are only connecting it like before.
When you did the uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, you should follow this procedure document because there are more components than just "iTunes."

Since the iPod is recognized by the system, it seems like the iTunes process that runs in the background to recognize when an iPod is connected is not running or working properly.

Dec 22, 2015 12:04 PM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby momsandyf,After uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes a second time it is now connecting to the iPod. I never did get it to go into disk mode, however. But it seems to be working now. Thank you.
