Q: Installed El Capitan now Disk Full

I recently transferred about 20G of disk space  to an External Hard Drive which was all photos to install the El Capitan upgrade. Now I have no Disk Space

Seem as if all my memory is  eaten up by Other?? Have no clue what other is but it strange that this has happened after the install. Any idea what I should do to correct this?

Here is a definition of OTHER:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202867

As you may surmise, OTHER as a category is NOT a problem.

The program that generates that display has a bug in it and often produces inaccurate information.  Sometimes, not always, a Spotlight reidex will correct it:

In addition,  you can download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. Transfer to ab external HDD the files you do not want on your Mac or delete them.

Do not forget to empty trash. Only then is space allocated for additional data.

    Ciao.
