Black Screen and Werid Colors

Hello everyone I am having a problem with my mac. My LCD was broken so I replaced it with a new exact screen resolution. So now when I start my MacBook pro , all I have is a black screen. Until I plug in a hdmi wire. Then it works but the colors are all weird. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Below is my Mac book pro screen. I looked into the Unversail Access and color display. Neither fix the problem.

You can try a pram reset. Command/Option/P/R keys and power button for three chimes ant startup. And also an SMC reset. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 But you may have tho new a defective screen or the power supply for the screen is bad. I think it's called an IO board but can't remember. If you did this yourself,it's right below the LCD. Has the back light in it.

Could you try a safe boot in El Capitan to see it you screen has the same distortions. Boot with the shift key down. Also, how did you go about installing windows? Did you use boot camp? If your screen is good with the safe boot, I would like you to download and run EtreCheck and post it here. http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck Also would like to know what screen resolution and color mode you are running for your desktop. And you could try another desktop and screen saver in system preferences.

@my ginger Hey still the same distortion color. Yes I installed Windows with Boot camp long a ago before I upgraded to El Capitan. Well I ran all kinds of hardware test and 0 problems. I reset everything. I even checked all my display and color. I'm backing up my files right now. Maybe I'd I erase the drive and use recovery to reinstall El Capitan. Do you think maybe that might work? I checked everything Display,Hardware,Resolution, and lol I am just stumped. But resolution is 1440x900. I really appreciate the help so far.

Some thing I need to know. If you are in the windows partition, booted in. And you shut down. If you restart without the external monitor plugged in, will it go to screen with no problems? Starting up in windows? Have you run disk utilities from recovery,to check or verify the hard drive for errors. If you wish to try it I can tell you how to run a permissions check using terminal, as El Capitan does not have that option from utilities.

The screen works for the Windows side without the external monitor. If I am just booting Windows it works fine. But if I try to boot Mac without the external it just stays black. But if I plug my external in it starts to work for Mac but it has that werid color effect. Windows just only latop screen WORKS , no external needed. Mac just only the laptop screen DOESNT WORK, need external to even come on. I would love any advice to make it work. I love my MacBook. I will test the disk utilities.

Not really sure where to go from here. I haven't found now solution. It like when I boot Mac it changes the color on start up. If I only knew the Mac system more, I could crack this. But I am just stuck and not sure what to do. I do notice ,that if I play with the contrast it makes it a little better. But like negative or jacked up contrast. I figure reinstalling would fix the problem. But no I try reseting the PRAM doesn't help. SMC..I have to take the Macbook Pro apart just to take out the battery. But I have been trying all solutions.

To the best of my knowledge there is no terminal command to reset. Other that to repair the internal drive( the installed software) , which can also be done in recovery disk utilities or single user commands. Which are actually terminal commands anyway. To do the SMC reset on a Mac that has a battery you should not or can not remove it"s; hold down/Control/Option/Shift keys while holding down the power button for 5 to 10 seconds while the computer is off. If you have a backup of your drive, you might need to erase the partition the Mac operating system is on and use recovery to reinstall.

Go to the windows side and see what resolution your running. Then go back in the mac side and see what it is there. See if you can duplicate it on the mac side. You might even want to check the colorsync on each side. If it was a software problem the reinstall should have resolved it. It may be an incompatibly in the screen and the MBP.You may need to check back with the people you bought it from. Your external monitor may run at a different screen resolution than the MBP screen.

I have a 2011 Mac Book Pro. I tried doing as suggested. With energy save but it didn't make a difference. Still the same display. I figure a reinstall would of fix it as well. But sadly no. I do notice when I play with color that it almost put's into normal color range. But when I took out the old display I remember checking all the numbers , Serials and Ids they where all the same as the old one. There is something that is just making it to bright. When it boots it normally colored for 2 seconds. Then it just increases and goes to the weird coloring. But then again no expert with Mac. But I have A1286 model.

You said that on the windows side the screen worked perfectly. Did you go into there in control panel settings and check the resolution. Then see what the difference was.You may end up having to take it to an apple store as they have test equipment to check it with. Is the inverter board the same as what came with the MBP? And before the other screen went bad, were you getting anomalies with it?

Yeah I might to have to bring it in. Today my hard drive decided to quit on me. But I was able to use a external to boot from. 🙂 But I think I might of found the problem to color issue finally. It's seems that since this the default screen it won't use the default color profile. After I booted and upgrade again. A pop up occurred and said wasn't able to download and use factory color display. Something like HMD or HD , not quite sure what it was. But thanks for all the help and support so far it has been helping a lot. The resolution is same everything is correct except the color profile like I mentioned. Not sure how to get it.

You may have already tried this, but I'll send it along anyway. http://www.computer-darkroom.com/colorsync-display/colorsync_1.htm When doing the calibration in system preferences display, you should at times in that window see a representation of your screen. If that window shows a good resolution , but the screen itself does not, the the problem has to be the screen itself. My understanding is, that when installing the operating system, it reads the MBP for the needed software.
