Dec 20, 2015 7:49 PM in response to RoyalAllen44by my ginger,You can try a pram reset. Command/Option/P/R keys and power button for three chimes ant startup. And also an SMC reset. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 But you may have tho new a defective screen or the power supply for the screen is bad. I think it's called an IO board but can't remember. If you did this yourself,it's right below the LCD. Has the back light in it.

Dec 20, 2015 8:10 PM in response to my gingerby RoyalAllen44,Thanks for the reply @my ginger. I try doing that but still the same color effect is in place. The funny thing is I have Windows Boot camp installed. When I switch over to use it. The screen works completely fine. I don't think it's a hardware issue. Causing it. Maybe some kind of software malfunction.

Dec 21, 2015 9:40 AM in response to RoyalAllen44by my ginger,Could you try a safe boot in El Capitan to see it you screen has the same distortions. Boot with the shift key down. Also, how did you go about installing windows? Did you use boot camp? If your screen is good with the safe boot, I would like you to download and run EtreCheck and post it here. http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck Also would like to know what screen resolution and color mode you are running for your desktop. And you could try another desktop and screen saver in system preferences.

Dec 22, 2015 5:44 AM in response to my gingerby RoyalAllen44,@my ginger Hey still the same distortion color. Yes I installed Windows with Boot camp long a ago before I upgraded to El Capitan. Well I ran all kinds of hardware test and 0 problems. I reset everything. I even checked all my display and color. I'm backing up my files right now. Maybe I'd I erase the drive and use recovery to reinstall El Capitan. Do you think maybe that might work? I checked everything Display,Hardware,Resolution, and lol I am just stumped. But resolution is 1440x900. I really appreciate the help so far.

Dec 22, 2015 9:47 AM in response to RoyalAllen44by my ginger,Some thing I need to know. If you are in the windows partition, booted in. And you shut down. If you restart without the external monitor plugged in, will it go to screen with no problems? Starting up in windows? Have you run disk utilities from recovery,to check or verify the hard drive for errors. If you wish to try it I can tell you how to run a permissions check using terminal, as El Capitan does not have that option from utilities.

Dec 22, 2015 11:45 AM in response to my gingerby RoyalAllen44,The screen works for the Windows side without the external monitor. If I am just booting Windows it works fine. But if I try to boot Mac without the external it just stays black. But if I plug my external in it starts to work for Mac but it has that werid color effect. Windows just only latop screen WORKS , no external needed. Mac just only the laptop screen DOESNT WORK, need external to even come on. I would love any advice to make it work. I love my MacBook. I will test the disk utilities.

Dec 22, 2015 12:01 PM in response to RoyalAllen44by my ginger,You got the same distortion using safe boot? You may want to go into recovery and reinstall. Having a backup of your drive is a good idea.Usually no personal data is lost when just doing a reinstall.

Dec 23, 2015 9:06 PM in response to RoyalAllen44by RoyalAllen44,Not really sure where to go from here. I haven't found now solution. It like when I boot Mac it changes the color on start up. If I only knew the Mac system more, I could crack this. But I am just stuck and not sure what to do. I do notice ,that if I play with the contrast it makes it a little better. But like negative or jacked up contrast. I figure reinstalling would fix the problem. But no I try reseting the PRAM doesn't help. SMC..I have to take the Macbook Pro apart just to take out the battery. But I have been trying all solutions.

Dec 23, 2015 9:36 PM in response to RoyalAllen44by RoyalAllen44,Is a terminal code to rest anything?
-
Dec 24, 2015 2:19 PM in response to RoyalAllen44by my ginger,To the best of my knowledge there is no terminal command to reset. Other that to repair the internal drive( the installed software) , which can also be done in recovery disk utilities or single user commands. Which are actually terminal commands anyway. To do the SMC reset on a Mac that has a battery you should not or can not remove it"s; hold down/Control/Option/Shift keys while holding down the power button for 5 to 10 seconds while the computer is off. If you have a backup of your drive, you might need to erase the partition the Mac operating system is on and use recovery to reinstall.
