I am also having problems with getting all the tunes I have made available off line to play on my Ipad 2 mini (non-cellular). I have a subscription to Apple Music and made many albums available off line while I was connected via WiFi. I am loaded up with software 9.2. It is strange that some songs will play, but others won't. I went back and checked that they were indeed available for off line, and they were. Off line...no go. After I connect to WiFi...I can play them. I can't figure it out.

Anyone...?

Are you using an Apple Music subscription or is this music you own and sync'd to the iPod via iTunes? If its Apple Music then did you make the music available for offline listening by downloading the songs?

If you haven't connected to wifi in awhile Apple Music may require a temporary connection to validate that your subscription is still active before it will play downloaded offline songs. I'm not sure exactly how often it needs to do this but on my iPhone I can still play my downloaded Apple music if I switch the iPhone into Airplane mode.

First - are we discussing the same iPod Touch 4th Gen (running iOS 8.0.2) that is at the bottom of your signature or have you purchased a newer version?

If it is the same iPod - then a bit more information. How do you get your music onto your iPod? Syncing via USB cable from a computer with iTunes? Then you should not need Wifi to play music that you synced. If you just got it, then you might need Wifi or at least an internet connection to do the initial setup. If you are talking about iTunes Radio (which was part of earlier versions of the Music app but replaced by Apple Music) then you need a wifi connection to connect to the internet.

If you got a newer iPod and are attempting to use Apple Music, then the information that was posted by Morrispe is accurate: you would need a Wifi connection to the internet to stream music. Otherwise you have to download the music first to your iPod (again needing Wifi for that) and then you should be able to listen without the Wifi.

Many people have posted about issues playing music that was supposedly downloaded since iOS 9.2. I have had some issues - but generally the system works as expected. I even managed to get a 500 song playlist downloaded properly which I was never able to do before 9.2.

(1) First suggestion would be to try either a force quit of the Music App and see if that helps.

(2) Would be do a hard reset of the iPhone (holding HOME and POWER buttons until the Apple logo appears)

(3) Next suggestion would be to remove whatever songs/albums you think are on the iPhone. Then go to Settings/General/Storage & iCloud Usage/Manage Storage and delete any data that is being used by the Music app. Then - after restarting the iPhone - try downloading the music again and see if it works properly.

(4) Just wait (somewhat patiently) till iOS 9.3 because supposedly one of the fixes included is about the downloaded songs in the Music app.
