Q: facebook messenger not connecting since update

I've been having issues with OS X Messenger connecting to the Facebook Jabber service since the most recent update.  IS this a known issue, or am I an isolated case?  I've rebuilt my Mac from a fresh install of El Cap recently, and the Messages  app was working fine.  It's working with iMessage OK, but I don't have another FB account to check with.  I have reset my Jabber password on the FB side and made sure that it was correct on the Mac as well.

Any troubleshooting help would be most welcome.

    Hi,

It is nothing to do with any Apple Update.

Facebook have stopped supporting external access to their chat server.

It seems they are moving away from Jabber and doing their Own Thing.

Well, that's unfortunate.  It seems that Facebook finally did away with the Jabber interface and it was merely coincidental with my update.  I'm hopeful that Apple updates Messages to include a replacement interface for Facebook, then.

    Thanks, Ralph!

    4thanx.gif    for the    2correct.png  Points.

    That will depend on Facebook.

AIM have published their APIs for their service fro some time now and there are many apps that login to AIM.

Jabber/XMPP have along tradition of saying they are Open about the service.

AIM is centralised but Jabber is a host of servers all over the world.

Yahoo was added at iChat 6 (the version before Messages) but it is very limited.

It does not make use of the way iChat used to Video to other Mac users with bot end using either and AIM or Jabber ID.

It only does text messaging and does not even do File Sharing.

Another is whatever Microsoft is now offering now that MSN is effectively no more.

    That is even less likely.
